Honda Motor Co. was created because Japan needed a low cost means of transportation after WWII. Soichiro Honda started out by putting engines on bicycles. By the 1960's Honda had captured the world with it's motorcycles and remains the largest to this day. In 1960, Mr. Honda starting make very small, efficient cars and in 1972, began marketing in the US with the Civic - large by Japanese standards, but smaller and more efficient than American cars.
When Honda Motor Co. released the Accord in 1976, it was an immediate success because of it's economy and fun to drive nature. By the mid 1980's, Honda owner's were buying their second or third Honda car and handing down their older ones to their children. Due to the influence of the auto racing circuit, the younger generations were wanting to make them faster and more powerful - thus the "Tuner Craze" began.
