The Hummer, a derivative of the military's High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Hum-Vee), is a rugged, all terrain vehicle that is extremely versatile. Our armed forces trained in Hum-Vee's for almost 10 years and those that went into battle with them during Desert Storm came home really impressed with them. Manufactured in Mishawaka, Indiana, AM General released a civilian model in 1991 that was just called the "Hummer". California governor, Arnold Schwartzenegger bought the first one!
In 1999 General Motors bought the name Hummer from AM General, but AM General continued with manufacturing. GM introduced two additional versions, the H2 and the H3., and renamed the Hummer, the H1. AM General still makes the H1 and is under contract to build the H2 while the H3 is built in Shreveport, LA. While the H1 and H2 still remain very heavy (over 8,500lbs) with large engines and complex drivelines, the H3 is smaller and geared more towards those that want an everyday SUV. Look for additional models and right hand drive in the near future. Regardless of how heavy duty a vehicle is, it still needs regular service & maintenance. Come to Hill's.
