Infinity is Nissan Motors' luxury brand that was first marketed in the U.S. in 1989 and were originally targeted against Lexus & Acura's luxury line of automobiles. When the Q45 was released in 1990, itís 278 hp engine, 4 wheel steering and luxury interior appointments helped to propel the their company forward.
The release of the 97 QX4 (the first of the mid sized SUV's and built on a truck platform) and the redesign of the G20 (a compact sporty sedan) were steps taken to lead Infinity in a new direction - against Audi and BMW. Infiniti's new designs of the G35, far exceeding the capabilities of previous models and the sport tuned FX45 with itís sports car handling, station wagon versatility and all weather capability, proved to the motoring press that they were indeed "the new Japanese BMW". Blooming sales prompted Infinity to release the M35/M45 and the FX35/F45 as redesigned models for 2006. The M35/45 series, already popular, gained an even greater reputation by winning an 8 vehicle caparison test sponsored by Car & Driver in 2006.
