Jeep's were first created at the request of the U.S. Army because they needed a rugged, general purpose (GP) vehicle that could go from a landing ship, across a beach, go on inland and do it without the benefit of a even a path or unimproved roadway. The 1st prototypes and production vehicles we made by American Bantam, but the U.S. Army also released contracts to Willys-Overland and Ford to all build the same thing. Ultimately, Willys-Overland ended up being the manufacturer after WWII because of their larger engine package. In 1953, Willys was sold to Kaiser which became Kaiser -Jeep in 1963. By 1970, AMC Corp owned Jeep until purchased by Chrysler in 1987. As the saying goes, the rest is history.

The Jeep off road vehicle is the grandfather to every sport utility vehicle made as they inspired designers worldwide to create their own unique SUV. By the 1990's every manufacturer has imitated but never equaled a Jeep. For 1993, the luxury, upscale Grand Cherokee was released and the 21st century brought the Compass, Commander, Liberty and Patriot. Our NAPA AutoCare Center has the training and expertise to service these unique vehicles and keep them running - on and off road.
